The Weekend at Volcanoview — and how Fridays work now

We've shifted the rhythm again — and we think you'll like it. The Weekend at Volcanoview is your quality space away from home. Just come, chill, immerse yourself and enjoy Saturday and Sunday with friends, family, or a good book — 9am till 7pm. Think chess boards, board games, music, a crackling fire and good food. You'll be home before dark — zero-maintenance chill. At the bar: kraft beer on tap and cocktails. From the kitchen: breakfast and lunch while the day unfolds. From 3pm, comfort food for the drive home — slow-cooked beef on roasted potatoes, seasonal soup with sourdough, and plates that leave you settled before you're back on the sofa. Friday: no walk-ins unless we've got a ticketed night on the calendar — see what's on and book on the event page. When we're not hosting our own event, Friday is open for private functions — from 20 guests and up. Functions or get in touch. Monday–Thursday we're here for private events too — same story: tell us what you're imagining and we'll shape menu, music and mood. Walk-ins and bookings welcome on weekends — reserve a table. Newsletter for ticketed Fridays and gatherings.

Mid winter functions — 20 to 90 guests, any weekday or evening

Mid winter is made for the kind of night you actually remember — slow evenings, good company, warmth against the cold, and a table worth staying at. That’s what you get when you take over Volcanoview for your group. We’re open for walk-ins on Saturday and Sunday, 10am – 3pm. Any other day and every evening, from 20 to 90 guests, the venue is yours — birthdays, team nights, reunions, celebrations. Tell us what you’re imagining and we’ll shape the menu, the music, and the mood around it. Why at Volcanoview? Mid winter & Volcanoview — serenity, ambience, and the space all to yourself. Very easy to have a memorable time. The food — dinner is where we shine: slow-cooked beef cheeks, stone-oven sourdough pizza, canapés to start and generous plates to share. Local and organic where it counts, cooked slowly and from the heart. The bar — signature cocktails, craft beer on tap, and thoughtfully chosen New Zealand wines. Music — professional PA system included. Bring your own DJ or we’ll arrange one for you. Outdoor space — courtyard fire, room for games, and the mountain as your backdrop. Learn more or enquire now and let’s plan your not-so-ordinary night out.

Karamu Barrelworks on tap — Tank4, Pinot Gris, and Cherries

We’ve lined up the taps with three beauties from Karamu Barrelworks, the Waikato outfit where patience is practically an ingredient. Daryl Bryant brews farmhouse and lambic-inspired beer the slow way: a nod to Belgian tradition, wild fermentation, and time in oak until the liquid tells him it’s ready. It’s the kind of project you’d expect to find down a tree-lined drive on a lifestyle block — hand-built sheds, barrel rooms, and the quiet conviction that complexity is worth waiting for. TANK 4 is their saison-shaped anchor: a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, bone-dry where it matters, with fruity esters up front and a lean, quenching finish. It’s as happy in the middle of a lazy afternoon as it is when you’re winding down later — classic, alive, and built for another sip. Pinot Gris is Karamu’s grape ale — beer meets barrel, meets wine country fruit. Pinot gris folded into a tart, aromatic pour: layers of fruit, acidity, and funk that keep revealing themselves as the glass goes down. Cherries is lambic-kriek territory — refermented on sour cherries for that deep blush, almond-pit whisper, and a refreshingly dry finish. Dessert in a glass it is not; it’s appetite-whetting, conversation-starting, and dangerously moreish. We’re stoked to have the full trio on tap — stop in for a pour (or three) and see why Karamu’s patience-first approach is worth seeking out.

Open all winter — weekends, functions, and not-so-ordinary nights

We’re staying open right through winter. You’ll find us on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with our regular service. On other days, we’re here for private functions — weddings, corporate gatherings, celebrations, or whatever you’d like to shape with us. This season you can expect more events, the kind of not-so-ordinary nights out that make a trip to the mountain feel special, and a deeper focus on the dining experience and cosy / social events. Volcanoview is the ideal place to connect with friends and family and with our beautiful mountain. We’d love to see you.
