Christmas 2020 and New Year

It has been a very strange year for all of us to say the least.

We are open till 4 pm on December 24.

December 25, 26 and 27 we are closed.

December 31 we are open till 4 pm.

January 1 we are closed and open again on the 2nd of January to start a less difficult year we hope.

Flipping Covid

Ok we have a restaurant. Over 100 dishes on the menu. During the week we do have some guests, but not enough to pay the bills. Then comes the weekend….from 11:30 am till 2 pm one rush of people who all (rightfully) expect we can serve what they order. How would/could they know what we experience as a business? Fact is that this situation is not sustainable. Tourists are gone. Kiwi’s are nice, but they will never ever compensate for the loss of revenues the NZ Hospo businesses suffers from due to having no tourists.

I feel we will have to focus on functions and work do’s and just forget about being open for the general public and wait for someone who orders a hot choc, or bitterballen or an omelette. Pity for all those people who appreciate what we had to offer, but since we all face the same Covid shit, we should  share this equally and do not cry cry cry (Johnny Cash)

So do not be surprised when we are closed.

Post Covid Opening Hours till October

Opening Hours from October.

As long as we can operate under level 2 or 1 or preferable at no specific level at all (just like the old days) we will be open as follows:

Monday and Tuesday: closed as always has been the case

Wednesday to Friday: kitchen open from 11 am to 3 pm and if you have made a booking (prior to 3 pm for same day bookings) from 5 till 7 pm.

Saturday and Sunday: kitchen open from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm *

For same day bookings please give us a call BEFORE 3:00 pm. (06 75 66 112)

For group bookings  and functions  we will be open any day; just give us a call or send an email to discuss your date, time and other wishes. We normally do not charge a hire fee and the price per head for a mains only buffet for 20+ adults starts at $ 25.

So we can meet again!!!!!

We  have received this question many times over the last weeks and that feels good because it means people did not forget about us. As we now enter “security level-2” of the lock down it will provide us the opportunity to see  familiar faces again and do what we love most: “provide our guests with a great time”.

We are a destination

Here at Volcanoview we just celebrated our 9th anniversary and people who have been here know that it is all about Dutch conviviality and ambiance. We like to see Volcanoview as your extended living room where you can relax just like at home whilst someone else does the cooking and the dishes.

Hospitality under “safety level 2”.

Social distancing, keeping record of who stayed at our tavern. These are the rules and we will comply. But for the rest nothing changes. We will still offer honest food which we make from scratch. We bake our own sour dough bread, our own buns, and make all our sauces and sweets and chips and so on and so on. Which means that we know what we serve. And we do that in a speedy manner.

We are sure you and others will be keen to celebrate when you feel comfortable again to enjoy the things we have all taken for granted over the last decades, i.e. dancing, singing, hugging, drinking and sharing food with other human beings. So what stops you? What about you take a look at our online booking form below. Just reserve a table and we’ll play it by ear. Please not that under security level 2 we cannot take bookings for groups over 10 people.

When will we see you again?

We  have received this question many times over the last weeks and that feels good because it means people did not forget about us. As we now enter “security level-3” of the lock down it is tempting to re-open our doors. It will provide us the opportunity to see  familiar faces again and do what we love most: “provide our guests with a great time”.

After careful consideration however we have come to the conclusion that level 3 lock down rules do not allow us to operate like we wish here at Volcanoview Tavern. We are not just a food and drinks provider and that is what full service restaurants will become when they open today.

We are a destination

Here at Volcanoview we just celebrated our 9th anniversary and people who have been here know that it is all about Dutch conviviality and ambiance. We like to see Volcanoview as your extended living room where you can relax just like at home whilst someone else does the cooking and the dishes.

As we feel that takeaway is simply not even covering 25% of what we have to offer we have decided to open again at a stage where we feel we can offer the level of service that we would be happy with ourselves.

Save the date

One day, we don’t know when, we will open our doors again. This will most likely be around level-2 but even then it might still not be a good time. Will people feel comfortable around others? Are people comfortable leaving the house? So many uncertainties and we simply don’t know the answer. What we do know is that we are really committed to be a destination where you can enjoy quality time with the people you care for. We will closely monitor the situation and make sure that Volcanoview will be the first destination to think off for your next occasion to celebrate. And we are sure you and others will be keen to celebrate when we feel comfortable to enjoy the things we have been able to take for granted over the last decades. More Dutch than before

2020 will be the year that we will even more focus on our Dutch specialties. Pancakes, bitterballen, our famous ” prutje ” and Sea Food Chowder will all be on the day menu. In the evening you can drop in without a reservation as long as you accept that we will serve our Dutch Indonesian food or the traditional Kiwi Scotch Fillet or our healthy fish dishes.

If you book one day in advance for 4 people or more…we can prepare our Indonesian Rice Table with 3 meats, one fish, 2 vegetable dishes and heaps of side dishes.

For group bookings and or functions we can cook whatever you like and to almost anyone’s budget.

Fathers Day

Woohoo, Sunday is Fathers Day!

Not too special, because it is fathers day every day. Anyhow, anyway, Volcanoview Tavern is open from 10 a.m. to serve big breakfasts, scotch fillet, broodjes bitterbal (Dutch treat) and much more. No need to book, just pop in. It can be busy between 12-1 p.m. See you Sunday

New management

New Zealand is a sort of magnet . The life style, the friendly people, the space, it all appeals to young people from the western hemisphere. And so my son Lex and his partner and baby daughter are now living in New Zealand. He will be managing an important part of the business and for now his focus will be on the efficient use of social media. You will surely meet Lex in the restaurant. His energy and new ideas will be beneficial to all.

Indonesian Food

Over the last two months we have had great feed-back from our guests who came for the Indonesian Dinner. Every dish is spiced differently and nothing is too spicy hot. You can always add spicy hot “sambal” but you cannot take it out anymore!

It is rather essential that you book in advance. Cooking Indonesian is something totally different compared to cooking  dishes such as Scotch fillet and Cajun salmon. The spices have to “soak in”  and that takes time.

For those who prefer Scotch fillet or Fish Pot or Chicken Parmesan or Cajun Salmon, no problem, we can still do that as well. But you will be disappointed if the other guests go for the Indonesian because it will take some time before they have finished their dinner.
